I have a copy of the book with me and have read it over 100 times i think. The type of christian Russell does not want to associate himself with i realised is the Christianity that keeps spreading ignorance and homophobia and not the loving and forgiving christianity that jesus preached
Have you read his book and if so do you agree with me or not?Bertrand Russell wrote the book 'Why I am not a Christian' and still believed in jesus?
Your first sentence is a statement followed by a ? The only question you pose is your ultimate sentence. The answer is then-- NO and NO. You are learning that to ask the right question is very difficult, and takes a lot of thought and energy. Your presence on Y/A is helpful to this end.
I haven't read the book b/c I've heard that had no new arguments from others such as Nietzsche, Marx, Freud, or Feuerbach. From the selections that I have read, I agree that he had nothing new to add so I wasn't going to waste my time w/ the whole book since it's outdated in some ways %26amp; I could find the same, more current points of view from Dawkins or Hitchens.
I don't agree that "Christianity" spreads the ignorance, but I do agree that many practitioners spread ignorance b/c they don't crack open their own Bible to read... they let their church leaders interpret Scripture meanings for them %26amp; then follow that teaching w/o question. I believe Mr. Russell was rejecting the formalized practice of Christianity, not the Spirit of the teachings which he obviously did not comprehend in context. But I don't fault him for that. Scripture says that we all "see through a glass darkly" in this life. Meaning, we can search %26amp; understand somethings. Maybe a lot of things. But not all things. For now.Bertrand Russell wrote the book 'Why I am not a Christian' and still believed in jesus?
Catchy title.
I've not read this book but think that they are many who can relate to this. You can believe a theist belief, even of a recognised religion, but distance yourself from the "gang" it is associated with.
That's the beauty of it really. Just as you can come up with your own version.
I don't see anything there to indicate he thought of Jesus as anything more than a source of moral lessons. For what it's worth, I do agree with him about how wildly many so-called Christians deviate from those lessons.
Just to compare, heres something from another essay of his called "What I Believe":
"I believe that when I die I shall rot, and nothing of my ego will survive."
That doesn't sound to me like someone with any kind of religious belief in Jesus.Bertrand Russell wrote the book 'Why I am not a Christian' and still believed in jesus?
Sounds nice, but, homophobia aside, what do some mean by "spreading ignorance"?
Some would consider it ignorant for me to state that God created the world.
Even the mere suggestion that there is a God causes some to tag those of faith with the label "ignorant".
As they say, the first and the last true Christian died on the Cross 2000 years back.
I have not read the book you have mentioned.
I like answering your questions. You have not limited yourself to just one religion. Great.
Read An Autobiography of a Yogi by Swami Paramahamsa Yogananda

And?
%26lt;%26lt;I have a copy of the book with me and have read it over 100 times i think.%26gt;%26gt;
Is it really "that" interesting?
%26lt;%26lt;The type of %26lt;snip%26gt; that jesus preached %26gt;%26gt;
This Betrand Russell is in denial. The author of your "favorite" book seems to think God's Truth is all a "bowl of cherries", but it's not. There are some objectively unpleasant elements to God's Truth, and this Bertrand Russell wants to avoid them.
%26lt;%26lt;Have you read his book and if so do you agree with me or not?%26gt;%26gt;
I have no read his book and I don't intend to.
I don't agree with his "take" on Christianity.
Bertrand Russell was once a member of the Fabian Society and most likely a freemason. Do some study on the author and who he associated with and you may come away with a different perspective as to whether he is someone whose opinion you should admire or not.
Christ was an embodiment of love.Do all followers of Christ practise tolerance and compassion? No.The same applies to all other religions.Everyone twists and turns one's religion to suit one's whims and fancies. As such I am not surprised at what Russell said.
he believes in the existency of jesus but not as a god nor son of god
