How come Christians read the book of Psalms?

Don't get angry at me. I'm just confused. Because David was the King of Israel. He was Jewish. And the psalms are about G-d and Torah and Judaism. So, how come so many christians read it, as if it is a christian book? And I could be completely wrong, and maybe christians don't actually read it, but thats what it seems like...How come Christians read the book of Psalms?
A very good question.

First, we read the Psalms because the prophets spoke of their own experiences, the future of Israel, (and what a future!), and about Jesus, the Messiah. Take a look in the New Testament and see how many words from the Psalms are there.

Jesus quoted from the Psalms several times, sometimes in reference to Himself and other times in regards to other topics. Even the Book of Acts has quotes from the Psalms, as does other books in the New Testament (Romans, for example).

Sometimes we like to read the Psalms because the messages are timeless, David spoke of the Lord being his shepherd (Psalm 23) and He, the Lord, is our Shepherd too! Who couldn't relate to David's anguish of soul in Psalm 51, and which senior citizen doesn't find comfort in Psalm 71? These and more are some of my personal favorites.

This doesn't even come close to answering your question but I hope the response gives you a little bit of insight. I promise to star this one as interesting.
They read it because it is included in the Bible. If it was only for Jews to read the people who compiled the Bible would have left it out. Many writings of the time were left out. The book shows the emotional side of a followers of the Christian God, The Bible is not just a history book, but a guide to life. Psalms are songs of joy and despair, but done with faith during both times.

You mentioned anger and confusion in your question. Psalms talk about mans emotions in relation to God who created you. Christianity is a relationship. How come Christians read the book of Psalms?
The Christian Bible is composed of both the Old Testament (which is the Jewish Religious Text) and the New Testament (which describes the life of Jesus Christ and his followers as they begin the Church). Christians believe what those of the Jewish Faith believe along with the concepts and ideas explained in the New Testament (most importantly Jesus Christ is the Messiah).

During Christian Worship there are Traditionally four texts read (though some churches select out of the 4 suggested texts). A reading from the Old Testament, A Reading from the Book of Psalms specifically, a reading from the New Testament, and a Reading from the Gospels (the section of the New Testament that describes the life of Christ).

The Old Testament, which includes the Book of Psalms is very much about what you spoke of in your Question. But remember, Jesus himself was Jewish, had Jewish parents and was raised in a Jewish society. The Christian Faith is very much an Extension of Judaism.

The two faiths have very much in common.
The book of Psalms are read by Christians because they bring comfort when you are discouraged. David went through many common emotions that modern day Christians experience. Such as depression, and discouragement. David was Jewish, but still believed in the messiah. And spoke of it in the Psalms. How come Christians read the book of Psalms?
We read the entire bible. Why? Because the Bible, the entire Bible, is about Jesus Christ. From the first verse in Genesis to the last verse in Revelation. It's all about the Cross and the empty tomb.
The Savior YAHUSHUA kept Torah, and knew the Psalms. He is our example. If you share His life, you will follow His leading.
Wisdom
Christians read the whole of the Tanak
for one, it contains prophecies about Jesus
It IS a part of the bible, the old testament. Jesus Christ was Jewish too. :)
