My boyfriend of over a year is not a Christian and I am. I would not dare try to convert him from another religion, as I have respect for all religions, but he has no current faith or beliefs, and isn't sure that he wants to believe in anything. I've brought him to church with me, and even tried different churches with him, and he says he just feels out of place and like they are trying to brainwash people.
I want us to try to read a book together, and reflect on it. Purpose Driven Life is what first really solidified my faith, but I'm not sure that would be the right book for someone who is skeptical.
Any good suggestions? I could really use advice at this time. I love him, and he is good for me on so many other levels, but I know that I could not marry someone who is completely a non-believer.What is the best Christian book for a non-believer?
The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus

Try the "Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" by CS Lewis
followed by "Pilgrims Regress", Lewis was an atheist for a long time and knows how atheists reason things out.
(the Screwtape Letters is wonderful too!)
Remember you don't convert anyone that is the job of the Holy Spirit.
(the Bible though wonderful can put a lot of people off especially if they are not open to the words)What is the best Christian book for a non-believer?
If he likes fiction at all give him something from the author George McDonald. He always intertwines the message of salvation and why we need it into his great stories. This author of the late 1800s was one of CS lewis' main influences. You could also try the Left Behind series or other similar type books. The bible is always good but often the unbeliever will not read it.
"I know that I could not marry someone who is completely a non-believer"
But Paul the Apostle clearly said that you can marry someone who is not a Christian and that if you try to convert them after the marriage it's a sin. What is the best Christian book for a non-believer?
I read the following book for one of my Seminary classes. It contains several real-life stories of how people from other major faiths (as well as atheism) came to know Christ.
Rainer, Thom S. The Unexpected Journey: Conversations With People Who Turned From Other Beliefs to Jesus. Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2005. ISBN 0-3102-5741-7.
Most of you underestimate the power of the Bible..... if you read the Bible to him and explain it... God himself will show him the path...... God can do it through dreams, visions, anything... just pray for him God will do the rest..
The Bodie Thoene books especially the A.D. Chronicles. You can look them up on Amazon. Gives a little synopsis for each book. I read them over and over.
Hard To Believe By:John MacArthur
I Don't Have Enough Faith to Be An Atheist By:Norman L. Geisler %26amp; Frank Turek
A Divine Revelation of Hell By:Mary K. Baxter
Evidence that demands a verdict by Josh McDowell
Mere Christianity ny cs lewis
Screw tape letters by cs lewis
I would not dare try to convert him from another religion,
Yet you want a book on Christianity?
The bible..........show him the Gospel of John
Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis.
used to be available free in on-line form, don't know if it still is, but you might want to do a search.
as for not wanting to change him, as you know, dear, when you come to Christ, you see the urgency of leading others to Him, but you could not change him in any event, only God can. the end fast approaches and i applaud you for trying to lead him to the Lord. God bless you and your boyfriend.
EDIT: thank you for that reminder, poster who suggested the Bible. God's word stands alone and is how i came to know Jesus. however, many people have chosen to deny the Bible is God's word, which renders it powerless. one must read it with faith.
there is also a book called A Case For Christ by Lee Strobel. this book was written by a former atheist, educated at ivy league schools, working as an investigative reporter in chicago. his wife came to Christ and he set out to prove his wife wrong. he researched Jesus, the Bible, Christianity full throttle for a few years trying to disprove it. he walked away a born again believer in Jesus Christ and became a preacher, author, speaker, and apologist.
When you have respect for all religions you wind up going to hell. Romans 1:32 explains that you will deserve spiritual death in hell just because you approve of sin. All other religions are sin. You would know that if you were a REAL born again Christian. The best book to read is still the Bible. You need to learn it yourself.
Jesus said, "Then He will say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the EVERLASTING FIRE prepared for the devil and his angels'... These will go away into EVERLASTING PUNISHMENT, but the righteous into eternal life." - Matthew 25:41-46.
since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble you... in FLAMING FIRE taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power - 2 Thes. 1:6-9.
