Why is the Bible a Christian's official book, but most tend to ignore the OT and say Jesus nullified it?

Why don't they just drop the OT out of the Bible, then and just follow the NT?Why is the Bible a Christian's official book, but most tend to ignore the OT and say Jesus nullified it?
Jesus didn't nullify the OT. His Word plainly says He came to FULFILL

the OT.....Read your Bible
Without the OT you have nothing, because the NT is based entirely

on the OT %26amp; without it Messiah Y'shua's actions %26amp; statements are out of context.

Paul commended the Bereans, because they searched the Scriptures

daily to see if what he said was the truth, as they only had the OT in

those days, that is where they got their info from. What is even more

amazing is that people say Paul started a new religion, which of

course is crazy, he refered people to Torah constantly %26amp; kept the Law.

Only after Pauls death did ravening wolves come in %26amp; subvert his

teachings for their own ends, such as Ignatius of ANTIOCH, where he

called the Nazarene's christians %26amp; called for worship on SUNday in

place of Shabbat.

Without Torah %26amp; Messiah, you might as well follow old bud.Why is the Bible a Christian's official book, but most tend to ignore the OT and say Jesus nullified it?
The Scriptures say that all Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial. We don't ignore the Hebrew Scriptures, they are beneficial as stated, but as for the Mosaic Law and Levitical Law, they were for the Israleites only, not for Gentiles. When Jesus fulfilled the Law and then was put to death, the old Law was done away with and the Law of the Christ is what is followed now which is a Law of Love.
We do not. We learn and follow the principles and teachings of both the Hebrew and Greek scriptures but observe all things under the law of Christ.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

ALL Scripture is inspired of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness,聽that the man of God may be fully competent, completely equipped for every good work. Why is the Bible a Christian's official book, but most tend to ignore the OT and say Jesus nullified it?
They can't drop the Old Testament because Jesus himself said it was the word of God.

They can't follow it, though, because they don't fancy 20 years in jail for murdering slaves or stoning homosexuals to death.

Their only option is to acknowledge it and say "Oh, but it's metaphor".

Hmm.
Hi fence sitter. Our church does not do this. We study from Genesis to Revelation. Every thing in depth, cross reference all scripture so we do not take any scripture out of context The teaching is wonderful and I have visited a lot of churches and have found that this one has the best reading material and discription of salvation that has wisdom and all my questions are answered with logic. There are all kinds of people in all churches--the wheat and the tares so Its hard for me to be real close to any one but thats my problem, The church itself is a great one to learn if that is your goal. Love in Christ miss leslie
In the OT there is a lot about atonement for sins in the form of animal sacrifice. Many Christians believe that because Jesus' crucifixion was the "ultimate sacrifice" for sin, much of the OT no longer applies to day to day life. Many churches will refer to themselves a New Testament Church for this reason. They believe that the OT contains many valuable lessons and is good moral guide, but that the road to salvation is found in the New Testament . However, the bible does say that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. So I think it would be wrong to just drop it out of the Bible. The OT is like Godfather 1.... Kind of boring, but without it you would not really understand Godfather 2.
2Ti 3:16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right.

2Pe 1:20 Above all, you must understand that no prophecy in Scripture ever came from the prophets themselves

2Pe 1:21 or because they wanted to prophesy. It was the Holy Spirit who moved the prophets to speak from God.
One still needs to know just what it was that He fulfilled. The OT is an important lesson in mankind's history and it reveals a lot about the mind of man and god. The fact that we do not have to fall under the dictates and laws of the Old testament does not mean that we ignore it or do not need to study from it. Thanks for asking.
Good question.

John 5:46 "For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote of Me.

John 5:47 "But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?"

Isa 30:9 For this is a rebellious people, false sons, Sons who refuse to listen To the instruction of the LORD;

Isa 30:10 Who say to the seers, "You must not see visions"; And to the prophets, "You must not prophesy to us what is right, Speak to us pleasant words, Prophesy illusions.

Isa 30:11 "Get out of the way, turn aside from the path, Let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel."

Neh 9:26 "But they became disobedient and rebelled against Thee, And cast Thy law behind their backs And killed Thy prophets who had admonished them So that they might return to Thee, And they committed great blasphemies.
Actually, a lot of Christians take the OT for serious, after all, they constantly talk about Genesis, and unless you just want to pluck (like an eyeball) Genesis out of the Pentateuch and stick it in the NT, I'd say the whole Bible is used. Everything in the Bible is up for grabs. King David is spoken of a lot. The prophecies of Danial in relation to Revelations. The Book of Ruth. The Temple of Solomon and the reign of Solomon. David and Goliath. The Philistines. The Arc of the Covenant. Moses. Abraham. Joseph in Egypt. Sodom and Gomorrah and the story of Lot. I could go on and on here, but you see...the OT is intimately a part of the entire Christian Religion, and Judaism is an intrinsic part of Christianity.

Jesus said: I have not come to change The Law, I have come to Fulfill it. Therefore, it was not Jesus' intention to delete the Pentateuch, of the other scriptures of the OT or to render it of less importance. Jesus was a Jew himself - you cannot separate Judaism from the Man.

Jesus said: I have not come for the gentiles, I have come for the Nation of Israel. I hate to tell you, but Jesus was clear about this - he made no bones about the fact that his coming was in fulfillment of OT prophecies and that his coming was for the Jews - not us northern European types or anyone else who have since claimed him as our own.

In fact, I sometimes wonder whether Jesus ever meant for gentiles to be included in the gospel - it may never have been his intent. The fact is that the apostles traveled to OTHER parts of the Middle East and initially ONLY SPOKE TO JEWS. It was only later that in those other places, gentiles finally adopted the gospel for their own. We tend to forget these little details that would make of Jesus an "every man's savior." Which in fact, Jesus made plain in the Bible, gentiles were not included - although he did, on occasion help gentiles, such as the Roman Centurion.

So in the end, I am telling you - there is no separation between OT and NT any more than there is between man and God. The distinction is one made by ignorance, not by fact. Anyone who ignores the OT is not a true Christian in my opinion because the very basis for all of Jesus' gospel was supported by the OT, Jesus himself being a JEW...when Jesus spoke of the Temple in Jerusalem, he said: This is MY FATHER'S HOUSE OF WORSHIP...yet you have turned it into a den of thieves.

If Jesus meant to separate Jews from future Christians, then how then is it that he claimed that the Jewish Holy Temple was HIS FATHERS HOUSE?

Do not be deceived into thinking the OT is not important! This is the deception of the ignorant, who read the words but do not know how to THINK or put anything of any SENSE into their God given brains.

All of the Word of God applies, not just some of it!
Because the God of the OT told us about the coming of Jesus.

Through prophets like Daniel

"In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed."

And through hidden messages in Genesis

The Torah %26amp; the Bible are of Divine Origin, they are not to be dropped.

God Bless you.
The OT gives depth to God's Word. It is VERY important. Any Christian who said Jesus nullified it is ignorant. Jesus fulfilled it. You would do well to read the OT to see what a sinner you are. You can't be saved if you don't know you need saving.
You cannot divorce the OT from the NT. In fact, the OT is referenced over 1500 times in the NT! Without the OT, there IS no NT!

Jesus said "I come not to destroy the Law, but to FULFILL." To fulfill something means to make it true! In fact, Christ died on the cross specifically BECAUSE the Law could not be changed or abolished! Sin HAD to be paid for. They used to pay for it with the blood of lambs and bullocks, but, because Hebrews 10:4 tells us that it is not possible for the blood of lambs and bullocks to take away sin. It only put their sins on "credit" until Christ came to pay the bill. He became the last "Lamb" to be slain for our sins, once and for all. He did not in any way negate the 10 Commandments. They are still very much binding today.

It is written in 1 John 2:1 "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous"

What is sin? Sin is the transgression of the Law (1 John 3:4). So if they speak of sin in the NT, then obviously God's Law is still intact, because it is God's Law that shows us what sin is. How can a person ask Christ for forgiveness of their sins, if they don't even know what sin is? If the Law has been destroyed, then there's no such thing as sin. (Romans 4:15).
The vast majority of professing Christians have no idea what they are worshiping or why.

because then, things as wars, discrimination so on, would have extremely low justification.

still they would have to deal with the equality of women and the acceptance of homosexuals but at least they would stop killing people.
The OT is there to better help understand the NT. Secondly it would be like starting off in the middle of a story that may have worked in the Homers The iliad but not here.
Just because you don't understand the bible doesn't mean that Christians Jesus nullified it. Jesus fulfilled the commandments. He did NOT nullify them.
Both testament are the Word of God, not to be ignored.
jesus did not nullify the entire old testament
because if they followed the ot then they would have to stone their children. And most of the stories in the ot are so ridiculous that even the bible thumpers doubt them
