Why do some think that when one gets saved they become a Christian ? Romans 10:9 says you shall be saved , it does not say you also are now a Christian . Christianity is religion , salvation is not , nor are they one in the same
Why do some Christians say they are ?Does the book of Romans discuss becoming a Christian ?
Religion by definition means: A form of worship. It includes a system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices; these may be personal, or they may be advocated by an organisation. Usually religion involves belief in God or in a number of gods; or it treats humans, objects, desires, or forces as objects of worship
The definition of a Christian is a footstep follower of Christ. Bible writers in addressing fellow believers or describing followers of Christ used expressions such as “believers in the Lord,” “brothers” and “disciples” (Ac 5:14; 6:3; 15:10), “chosen ones” and “faithful ones” (Col 3:12; 1Ti 4:12), “slaves to God” and “slaves of Christ Jesus” (Ro 6:22; Php 1:1), “holy ones,” “congregation of God,” and “those who call upon the Lord.” (Ac 9:13; 20:28; 1Co 1:2; 2Ti 2:22) These terms with doctrinal meaning were used primarily as internal congregational designations. To outsiders Christianity was referred to as “The Way” (Ac 9:2; 19:9,?23; 22:4), and opponents called it “the sect of the Nazarenes” or just “this sect.”—Ac 24:5; 28:22. It was first in Syrian Antioch that Christ’s followers became known as Christians.
Interestingly at Romans 10:9,10 it states "For if you publicly declare that ‘word in your own mouth,’ that Jesus is Lord, and exercise faith in your heart that God raised him up from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one exercises faith for righteousness, but with the mouth one makes public declaration for salvation"
and 13:11 "Do this, too, because you people know the season, that it is already the hour for you to awake from sleep, for now our salvation is nearer than at the time when we became believers"
As Christ is the only way to salvation then it can be said that you would need to be a Christian to be saved, however that being said, on two occasions Jesus stated that a person has to endure to the end to be saved, hence a person cannot claim to be saved, it is a reward for their faithful endurance "to the end"
(Matthew 10:22) "And you will be objects of hatred by all people on account of my name; but he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved"
(Matthew 24:13) "But he that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved"
This is also supported by (Revelation 2:10) "Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer. Look! The Devil will keep on throwing some of you into prison that you may be fully put to the test, and that you may have tribulation ten days. Prove yourself faithful even to death, and I will give you the crown of life"
It is important to start out well in the course of Christian discipleship. But what ultimately counts is how we endure, how well we finish the course. The apostle Paul stressed this when he said: “You have need of endurance, in order that, after you have done the will of God, you may receive the fulfillment of the promise.” (Hebrews 10:36)
Jesus Christ also was a model of endurance. (1?Peter 2:21; compare Romans 15:3-5.) With these shining examples before us, surely we too are willing to endure down to the finish.—Hebrews 12:2,?3.
Therefore I cannot as a Christian claim that I am saved now, all I can do is endure to the end, then I can claim salvation through my life course.Does the book of Romans discuss becoming a Christian ?
