What is a good Christian Book? Serious answers only! ?

I want a good book to read that will help me grow spiritually. Please don't be rude or hateful. If you are a nonbeliever and don't know a christian book that i would like. Then don't answer!! thanksWhat is a good Christian Book? Serious answers only! ?
"Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis.

C.S. Lewis also wrote "The Chronicles Of Narnia" series, which is fun reading.

Anything by Francis Schaeffer if you want to think deeply.

Then there are such books as "Who Moved The Stone?" and "Evidence That Demands A Verdict" that are helpful in the area of "apologetics" (which, by the way, is NOT an apology, but an explanation.)

Stories about men and women of God who came before us are always inspirational, such as "The General Next To God" about William Boothe, the founder of the Salvation Army, or "Cross And The Switchblade", the story of David Wilkerson and how God led him to start what is now known as Teen Challenge, or the story "Run, Baby, Run" about Nicky Cruz, one of Wilkerson's biggest "trouble makers" (he mentions Nicky in "Cross and the Switchblade", but "Run, Baby, Run" is Nicky's own story. Also, any other (older) books by Wilkerson, as they are all based on actual people who's lives were changed by God.

Now, there you have quite a selection to pick from.

God bless you as you continue to seek the Lord for your life :-)
The best thing you can do is stick with reading the Bible. Other books keep you from concentrating the on what Jesus taught - in the end-times the making of many books will be greatly increased (confusion). Don't go beyond whats written in the Bible.

I have several..

A good one that helped me is "The Bait of Satan" by John Bevere.

The Bait Of Satan exposes one of the most deceptive snares Satan uses to get believers out of the will of God--Offense. Most people who are ensnared by the bait of Satan don't even realize it.

Dont be fooled! You will encounter offense, and its up to you how it will affect your relationship with God. Your response will determine your future. If offense is handled correctly, you will become stronger rather than bitter.

In this tenth anniversary edition of his best selling book, John Bevere shows you how to stay free from offense and escape the victim mentality. With more than 400,000 copies in print, this book includes testimonials of transformed people who have read the original book and a devotional supplement, featuring discussion questions, scriptures and prayers.

You will find answers to tough questions like these..

*Why am I compelled to tell "my side" of the story?"

*How can I fight thoughts of suspicion or distrust?

*What can I do to stop rehearsing past hurts?

*How can I regain trust after someon deeply offends me?

This book will help you escape the enemy's offensive trap as well as empower you to stay free of offense, enabling you to have an unhindered relationship with God.
THE best teacher I have ever found- well there are two I love the most, are old. I LOVE reading Andrew Murray books and Charles Haddon Spurgeon.

They are worth every cent you spend on them. I bought the complete works of Spurgeon. I pass them around to anyone who wants to read them in my congregation.

I ought to invest in another full set to donate to the libary, when I think about it.

Anyway, those two men had a total grasp of the totality of God's grace and will help you grow as no other I have found.

I have read all of Charles Swindol's writings, too. Very good.

There was one little book I really liked by Hannah Whitall Smith, the Secret to a Christian's Happy life. I can send you one of those- we get many copies of it to pass out to anyone .

Try Francis Thompson's "Hound of Heaven". Then go to a library and look for the works of Robert Farrar Capon, an Anglican bishop whose theology is easy to understand and whose love for God shines through every word. They're out of print and that is a dirty, rotten shame, but if you search, hopefully you can find them. The best is "The Third Peacock".
"The Shack" like the other person said. It's a fiction book but it's just about God loving a man who's dealing with alot of pain and it's pretty powerful. Also, "The Supernatural Ways of Royalty", this tells you with scripture to back it up...all about your royalty that you gain when you enter into God's family. It talks about how you are a prince/princess and not a pauper or slave of God. It also helps you see just how much God loves you!
I agree with those who recommend Mere Christianity. I also recommend Lee Strobel's books, The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith. The former will strengthen your knowledge of Christ's existence and the latter will strengthen your mind in answering the tough questions that always show up on Yahoo Answers--like "Why does God get away with atrocities such as sickness and genocide?" or "How can God send people who've never heard of Him to Hell?"
Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. It is a book on spirituality and nurturing your relationship with God. It also explores what Jesus did and why and how he did it.

Yes, a church was founded on the principles of the book, but the author wrote it for all thinking Christians.

This book changed my life and solidified my Christian beliefs in a God that is Love.

It's available through spirituality.com
I have always loved reading , The Hiding Place , it's a true story about a Christian family that got put in a concentration camp during WWII . It's a faith builder .

Battlefield of the mind ,by" joyce Meyers is good

Anything by Beth Moore .

and by: Ruth Bell Graham

I would suggest Nancy Missler's "Kingdom, Power %26amp; Glory".

They have helped me a lot spiritually, maybe they might help you, if you want to take a look.
I think the book "90 Minutes in Heaven" by Don Piper is amazing.

It's a true story about a guy who dies for 90 minutes and gets to see Heaven. His description of Heaven will make you long for it. Truly a remarkable book.
Hinds' Feet on High Places is an excellent book. Kind of like a modern "Pilgrim's Progress".

It's by Hannah Hurnard.

I'm a former Christian.
Practicing the Presence of God- by Brother Lawrence.

The Normal Christian Life- by Watchman Nee

Mere Christianity- C.S. Lewis, also check out the Screw Tape Letters.

City Of God- St. Augustin
Try this one.

Well I have a book called "Did Adam and eve have belly buttons" and it answered a whole bunch of question about God and religion.
You simply can't go wrong with Leo J. Trese's "The Faith Explained".

D != E
The Spirituality of the Cross by Gene Edward Veith, Jr.

The Hammer of God by Bo Giertz

The Book of God, the Bible as a novel by Walter Wangerin (he has several others as well)

Most buddhist books contain much more spirituality than most Christian books.

The only books I can recommend that are Christian are the Chicken Soup For The Soul series. They made me cry.
I'm currently working my way through "The Parable of Peanuts". I'm finding it to be an entertaining and enlightening read :)
Wild at Heart

Captivating: Unveiling the Mystery of a Women's Soul

both by John Eldredge

Battlefield of the Mind

by Joyce Meyer
I like Christy by Catherine Marshall. It's about a 19 year old girl who leaves the comfort of her home to teach in a one room school house in an isolated cove in the Great Smokey mountains.
The Pilgrims Progress by John Bunyan and In His Steps by Charles M. Sheldon. Both books had a major impact on my life as a Christian but especially In His Steps. I think you would enjoy both very much.
Dangerous Habits by Garth Ennis

An interesting comment on mortality told from within the Christian framework.
To bless you and lift you up, I couldn't recommend anything more than these two :

1. Any book about Smith Wigglesworth ( may be a bit hard to find ).

2. New Wine .
"God Is Not Great - How Religion Poisons Everything"

- Christopher Hitchens -
If you want to grow spiritually, why confine yourself to christian books? They will not give you a good grounding in spirituality. In fact, none are more full of dogma and fantasy.

Why not try something a bit more realistic.

The God Delusion - Richard Dawkins or

Letter to A Christian Nation - Sam Harris
