Im reading the book The Problem of Pain by C.S Lewis. Im a roman Catholic, do you think it really matters if i read it?I mean we both use the same Bible, just have some beliefs a little different right? have any of you read the book? If so, how did you like it?Is it ok for a catholic to read a christian book?
Sure, I read a lot of Christian books. Check out these authors: Patrick Madrid, Steve Ray, Karl Keating, Scott Hahn, Mark Shea, G. K. Chesterton, Flannery O'Connor. I have more names, but this is a start.
Dear Erica,You really [need] to study the Bible.Your statement "we both use the same Bible, just have some beliefs a [little] different right? WRONG; number one.we have different versions of the Bible .We don't include the seven extra books, called the Apocrypha, aside from that and much more important, the churches other than the Roman Catholic church have major theological differences in regard to praying to Mary and praying to saints which is totally not Biblical and there are many more differences. It is more than OK to read and study religious books especially the Holy Bible.Do more than just read it,study it and learn what is really expected of you as a Christian. Is it ok for a catholic to read a christian book?
I read and highly recommend Lewis. Although I'm a Protestant, I read and highly recommend books by Catholics, including Charles Williams and J.R.R. Tolkien (both among Lewis' closest friends) and G.K. Chesterton (one of Lewis' influences).
As others have pointed out, we don't (quite) use the same Bible, but I've also read the parts of your Bible that mine is missing. (Also the parts in the Orthodox Bibles that both of ours leave out.)
For that matter, I also read atheists (Sam Harris, Richard Dawkins), agnostics (George Orwell), humanists (Kurt Vonnegut, Isaac Asimov), not to mention going through the Qur'an and the Bhagavad-Gita fairly recently. I don't really understand why anyone would be so scared of people thinking that they would object to their reading from sources outside their own communities.
While I read The Problem of Pain a long time ago, I regret to say that I haven't re-read it in some years, and it isn't fresh enough in my mind to comment.
I am amazed that you are a Roman Catholic and do not consider yourself a Christian. As for the book sure go ahead open you mind a little to new things. Is it ok for a catholic to read a christian book?
I have not read that book, but it sounds good. Yes, it is fine to read christian books, it is not a sin.
Why not? I am Catholic and consider C. S. Lewis as THE preeminent Christian writer. If you have not read "Mere Christianity" yet make sure you read that next.
for the last time catholics are christian
Yup!
