And what difference would it make in our world today, if our knowledge had never been destroyed?Because of Christian book burnings throughout the centuries, how much knowledge have we lost?
Freemasons do the dirty Christians get the blame cute isn't it
what answer do you expect to this question?Because of Christian book burnings throughout the centuries, how much knowledge have we lost?
The destruction of the library at Alexandria is one I will never forgive them for.
God said he would preserve His Word and He has. No worries.Because of Christian book burnings throughout the centuries, how much knowledge have we lost?
Well. The result was called dark ages. It threw mankind back about 600 years.
True Christians base all their teachings and beliefs on the Bible, since it was never totally wiped out, likely nothing was lost. Perhaps some peoples viewpoints on the scriptures, but the scriptures themselves have remained in tact.
the bible is still alive!
someone once told me Columbus would have landed on the moon if it wasn't for religion.
You can't blame all Christians for the ignorant actions of some. Just as you can't blame all Americans for the fact that some of them are ignorant racists. Fair enough?
obviously a lot...cuz some people who ask meaningless questions are dumb as f*ck...
if you care so much, make youself omniscient %26amp; write a book =]
Who knows? We might have reached our current state of scientific advancement 300 years ago.
What gets me is that Christian mobs destroyed libraries and centers of learning but now Christians expect us to pat them on the back for supposedly inventing the concept of education and for preserving a handful of texts out of the thousands that were destroyed.
Sorry, but the idea of all that knowledge being lost because it didn't "glorify God" greatly angers me.
Truth has a way of surfacing in several places, so whatever knowledge was "lost" was probably replicated later in history.
Mostly, the book burnings simply delayed the revelation of the knowledge in them.
None.
None; Gamaliel response to the Sanhedrin is sufficient God's will cannot be thwarted.
as you can see the christians feel no guilt/ their hands are dirty they should be marked as destroyers of knowledge/ they will be judged one day and trapped for eternity in a hexagram they won't escape
So who do you think kept knowledge and scholarship alive during the Dark Ages? Hint: The key words are "Christians" and "Muslims."
Edit: No one knows for sure who destroyed the Great Library at Alexandria. Of the four possible scenarios, only teo involve Christians.
The catholic organization hierarchy are the ones that ordered book burnings.
Please do not confuse this organization with Christians.
All who profess to be Christians are not.
Know them by their works.
Just think of it as evolution, or survival of the fittest.
Not much, actually. Most of the biggest book burnings were performed by non-Christians. No one knows who burned the Library of Alexandria. Most Christian book burnings, apart from perhaps the Nazis (see note below), only burned works by one author, or just had Christians burning their own books, such as when pagans who converted to Christianity burned their books on sorcery. And books supporting Arianism were burned after the Council of Nicea. Other than that, most book burnings throughout history were performed by non-Christians.
Note: The Nazis only really burned books on one occasion, and that was to rid themselves of anti-Nazi or Jewish "propaganda." Most of these books, if not all, still survive.
I think the loss is beyond calculation. However if one believes in a just God then the recovery of "The Dead Sea Scrolls," The Nag Hammadi Library," "The Gospel of Judas (Iscariot)," a portion of "The Secret Gospel of Mark" and a renewed interest in finally translating a lot of other ancient documents should say something about just how God wants the world to go now. And it is defiantly not the mainstream Christian road.
Can't say for sure, but I can say this:
If misguided people operating under the false guise of christianity would just stop stealing books from the libraries around here, some people might not be so horribly deluded! Christians! Quit checking out books you don't like with no intention of ever returning them, just so others can't check them out! STOP IT!
The real question is this: Because of all religions how much knowledge have we lost or never gained?
God would not let any of the important books get burned. Only the bad ones.
